The position and movements of the femur relative to the hip joint are controlled by muscles originating from the pelvis and spine.
Since these muscles are asymmetrically distributed and have different vector potentials, if they become excessively tense, they can initially make the joint muscularly rigid and, if the excess tension persists over time, cause joint misalignment.
Monoarticular muscles with a short line of force have vectors favored in joint stabilization; their excess tension mainly manifests as compaction of the femoral head within the acetabulum.
Polyarticular and monoarticular muscles with significant lines of force (e.g., the adductors) have better vectors for femur movement and positioning.
For flexion/extension and rotation, dominances are expressed differently depending on whether the femur is a mobile point, unloaded, or a fixed point, loaded.
